Air Purifying Products
Atmosphere Purifying Paint White Base & Dark Base
Passivating Primer
EMR Shielding Paint
The ultimate in healthy coatings, incorporating enhanced technology to remove harmful particles from the air. Using ECOS products as a filter, or barrier can dramatically improve air quality by inhibiting the ingress of harmful particles, or removing them from the indoor space. Barrier coatings can be used to guard an environment from chemicals or radiation and protect the occupants from their harmful effects. These products have been used successfully in a wide range of instances, including The Louvre and lululemon. Other applications include hospitals, dental practices, data centers, and renovations using particle board. Air Purifying Paints work by removing existing VOCs from indoor air, trapping them as they come into contact with the painted surface. As a result harmful volatiles off gassing from furniture, flooring, equipment, or décor are reduced, improving indoor air quality. Air Purifying Paints have been used successfully in numerous settings, including residential, office, laboratory and healthcare, often remediating spaces where traditional paints have been used which are causing discomfort. Test results and technical information for the various Air Purifying Products can be found at EMR Shielding and Air Purifying.

The Declare product database and label are used to select products that meet the Living Building Challenge's stringent materials requirements, streamlining the materials specification and certification process.

The Health Product Declaration®
The HPD Open Standard provides a consistent, and transparent format to accurately disclose the material contents, and associated health information of a building product.
How it works Material ingredients are screened and categorized according to the hazards that international governmental bodies and toxicology experts have associated with them, based on two listings:
- Authoritative lists, which are maintained or recognized by government bodies
- Screening lists, which include chemicals that government bodies determined need further scrutiny, as well as chemical lists not recognized by any government body.
Declare
Declare labels are issued to products disclosing ingredient inventory, sourcing and end of life options. Declare labels are based on the Manufacturers Guide to Declare, administered by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI).
How it works Material ingredients are inventoried and screened against the Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List which represents the 'worst in class' materials, chemicals, and elements known to pose serious risks to human health and the greater ecosystem. The Declare product database and label are then used to select products that meet the Living Building Challenge's stringent materials requirements, streamlining the materials specification and certification process.
Declare level Red List Free means that a product does not contain any of the Red List materials identified by the ILFI.
Customers are telling us
Wonderful paint: “ECOS is the best paint I have ever used and I've tried almost all of the low VOC paints. The colors are beautiful, the coverage is perfect and it goes on smoothly. I have horrible smell sensitivities and this paint never bothers me. The company is also great. I've ordered several times and the paint has always arrived quickly and in perfect shape. The colors have always been exactly what I want. This is the only paint I will be using from now on.” – Kerry
Finally - paint for people with multiple chemical sensitivity: “ECOS paint is amazing. My wife is an allergic asthmatic with multiple chemical sensitivity. We have to be very careful about what we use in the house for cleaning, painting, etc. This paint has absolutely no smell or chemical fumes and my wife had absolutely no reaction or sensitivity to it. I will never buy paint from the store again (unless it's ECOS).” – Steve
Ingredients and transparency
What is in ECOS' products?
Water. Natural and manufactured binders. Mineral fillers, such as limestone and clay. Thickeners and builders - both wood cellulose and resinous. White pigment - titanium dioxide. Levelers, waxes, and texture powders
What is not in ECOS' products?
Solvents like white spirit, turpentine, terpenes, and ethereal oils, glycols, coalescents, animal products, heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury) formaldehyde and formaldehyde donors, acrolein, vinyl chloride, phthalates, APEOs, acrylic softeners, and biocides.
ECOS, through third party verified HPDs and Declare labels has chosen to share 100% of the ingredients used in each product so that customers, specifiers, architects and other professionals can fully evaluate it before use.
Color
ECOS’ colors have been developed for vibrancy, consistency and sustainability. Using only the highest quality pigments from Europe, specially modified to be miscible in paint, ECOS offers a complete color spectrum, in vivid, authentic colors. All ECOS’ products are factory tinted to ensure consistency, wherever they are applied. Referencing approved draw-downs and retains, variations between locations, and over time are eliminated. Sustainability is no afterthought, as ECOS uses only high performance, no glycol pigments in each and every gallon of product.
GreenScreen® List Translator Scores
The ingredients listed below score as GreenScreen List Translator Score Likely Benchmark 1 (LT-1), however are not considered by the manufacturer to represent a risk for humans in the way they are used in ECOS products. That is why the Declare level is Red List Free.
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's continental crust. It is considered carcinogenic if inhaled in dust form. In a liquid (or dried) coating, quartz is not in a dust form.
Amorphous silica is an inorganic material commonly used in semiconductor circuits. In the form of crystalline silica dust, it is associated with an increased risk for pulmonary diseases and lung cancer if inhaled. In a liquid (or dried) coating, amorphous silica is not in a dust form.
Titanium Dioxide has been classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans if inhaled in the form of ultrafine dust. In a liquid (or dried) coating, titanium dioxide is not in a dust form.
Foam control agent. This refined petroleum derivative carries the same CAS# as unrefined petroleum derivatives, which can have carcinogenic properties. Vaseline is an example of a highly refined petroleum derivative in which the carcinogenic properties have been removed.
