Transparency is the New Green in product selection, specification & procurement: Material Disclosure Miniseries, Part 2 of 3 - Understanding HPD v2.3

By Sustainable Minds on April 27, 2022

Recorded Thu, Apr 28, 11–12pm ET

Meet the leading material ingredient disclosure programs (C2C, HPD, Declare) helping AECOs and MFRs make better decisions about materials used in products and projects. While the disclosures from all the programs contribute to green building rating system materials credits, each provides different information.

Attend each one to learn about:
AECOs – The different info provided in each type of disclosure and how to use to make decisions about brands and products
MFRs – Which program(s) is right for your business based on R&D, innovation, market position and sales goals

The Health Product Declaration® (HPD) Open Standard
is the most widely used transparency and material health reporting method in the building industry with almost 10,000 published HPD reports representing over 40,000 building products.

Join us for demos and to learn about:

  • What's new in the HPD Open Standard v2.3
  • The Perkins&Will Precautionary List
  • Using the Transparency Catalog to find all brands & products with HPDs in every MasterFormat® section – and now Precautionary List-Free materials – in 1 click

v2.3 of the HPD Open Standard will be released in Q2 2022. This version introduces new features and important refinements to improve usability by both MFRs and project teams.

  • Increased material and substance data transparency provide MFRs with a clearer picture of the data quality requirements around an HPD.

  • Revamped data-entry and automated completeness checks for special conditions, better data validation and smarter policies.

  • Expanded HPD compliance pre-checks provide more detail and include more certifications and rating programs, including LEED v4.1.

  • New section to indicate compliance with other key restricted substances lists including LBC Red List, C2C Banned List, Perkins&Will Precautionary List and more.

Understanding the Perkins&Will Precautionary List

For years, designers at Perkins&Will have facilitated informed decisions by working with clients and MFRs to find alternatives that use the fewest possible toxic substances. They have helped fellow design professionals do the same through Transparency.

Until now, to use the Precautionary List, professionals first had to obtain a material’s ingredient list, such as an HPD, and then manually check against the list.

With HPD v2.3, AECOs looking for Precautionary List-Free materials can find them in the Transparency Catalog in 1 click.
