Louise St. Pierre is an Associate Professor of Industrial Design at Emily Carr University. She previously taught industrial design at the University of Washington for 10 years (7 years as Chair of the program). She has received numerous awards for her design work from important industry organizations like the Industrial Designer's Society of America and The American Center for Design, and been published in ID Magazine, Print Magazine, Innovation, and Communication Arts. One of the three Okala co-authors, Louise has received funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a broad range of collaborative research projects including funding to support exploratory student work on sustainable product design. Most recently, she was a juror for the Dell ReGeneration International Green Computing Design Competition.
Louise is part of a team that proposed a new design curriculum at Emily Carr University that has ambitions to become a leading school of responsible and sustainable design in North America. The new curriculum will begin graduating students in Spring of 2010. She is also dedicated to teaching methods that allow industrial designers to work collaboratively across disciplines and helping them to bring human-centered research methods to their work.
